Barker Munro Insurance Recruitment are delighted to be working with a major uk Personal Lines Insurer with an exciting opportunity to join the expanding EDS team.
The core function of the Data Scientist will be to develop advanced pricing, underwriting and fraud models using insurance data. As a Data Scientist you will work collaboratively with stakeholders in performing research and development in innovative new modelling activities.
As a Lead Data Scientist the successful candidate will be part of the EDS team. The Data Science & Analytics team is responsible for building innovative end user data and analytics solutions, AA / ML R&D, business partnering and providing data and analytical consultancy services.
The Data Science team are responsible for the production and testing of AA / ML models and techniques using a variety of cloud based software and applications as well as R&D on new AA/ML concepts and implementation techniques.
The main responsibilities for a Lead Data Scientist include but are not limited to:
Leading and mentoring a small team of Data Scientists.
Liaising with Key Stakeholders to translate problems into Data Science Experiments / Projects.
Taking ownership of the maintenance, evaluation and evolution of predictive algorithms and models.
Establishing and enforcing best practices for the testing, deployment, integration and evaluation of analytical models and their outputs in each business function.
Setting resource expectations and facilitating a wide range of ad hoc exploratory analysis to develop a deep understanding of both operational excellence and external customer engagement.
Presenting insights both internally within the team as well as to a range of business stakeholders at all levels
Identifying key opportunities where advanced analytics can influence and improve the current ways of working.
Act as a ‘thought leader’ in the field of advanced analytics.
Coaching on the topic of Advanced Analytics with the wider EDM team and the federated data analyst community.
The knowledge, skills and experiences required to be successful as a Lead Data Scientist are:
Demonstrate a passion in analysing and detecting patterns in data and be an expert in statistical modelling and use of machine learning techniques.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in previous data insights / analytics role(s)
A postgraduate qualification in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science etc
A proven background in translating user / business requirements to application of advanced analytics use cases.
A proven history of delivering data science capability as a new area of capability within an organisation
Data mining technical knowledge and skills including: decision trees, multivariate analysis, segmentation modelling, factor analysis, regression analysis, forecasting, natural language processing and machine learning.
Expertise in using open source tools such as Python, R and Julia.
Experience with SAS (base / stat) is preferable.
Knowledge of and expertise with the Apache Hadoop stack including but not limited to Spark, Kafka and Hive.
