Barker Munro is working with this established general Insurance provider, who requires a well-established Underwriter to join their friendly and growing motor insurance team based in a central town location, with close proximity to transport links.

Business is generated through a select number of UK brokers, focussing on high-quality and successful brokers. Business areas include the high premium sector of the UK private car market as well as small commercial vehicles, taxis and motor trade business as well as non-standard wheels-based risks.

Successful applicants for this insurance underwriter opening will have good insurance underwriting knowledge from within any of the wheels-based products lines mentioned above and the general insurance markets, coupled with a motivated and organised approach to trading with brokers and developing profitable business. Any experience of working within the numerical side of underwriting and looking at the numbers would be a distinct advantage in this position to compliment the rest of the underwriting team. There is also an opportunity for a broker, with Motor Insurance knowledge, to make the switch across to the insurer side and work in underwriting. Awareness of FSA, MID, ABI and Financial Ombudsman and the role each body plays within the industry would be highly desirable as would Broker/Insurer liaison experience and the ability to build rapport and develop business relationships. A good analytical mind and understanding this area of insurance is highly welcome.
